3 Things to Consider Before Becoming an Esthetician

There has been quite a boom in people wanting become Estheticians thanks to social media. But before you spend your precious time and money in beauty school working towards your Esthetics license here are three things you should consider.

  1. What is the average pay for an Esthetician in your area?

If you’re looking to make the big bucks you may want to rethink entering the Esthetics field. Now, before you come for me just hear me out. Can you make good money as an Esthetician, abso-freaking-lutely. But check the job postings in your area for Estheticians. Is the pay agreeable for you? Does the schedule work for you? You may not always have to work evenings and weekends, but evenings and weekends are very common in the industry when you are new. Social media has glamorized the Esthetics industry and it’s important to remember that social media is fake (most of the time).

  2. Why do you want to be an Esthetician?

Spend some time thinking about all the reasons why you want to be an Esthetician and write them down. There are no wrong answers so write down whatever comes to mind. Look over that list and see if it aligns with the life you want to live. For example, if one of the reasons on your list was because it looks cool or fun from what you see on social media, which is not a wrong answer, it just may not be reason enough to pursue an Esthetics career. But if you said something like, you have a passion for wanting to help people that is a great starting point.

  3. Do you want to work for someone else or work for yourself?

Now, you don’t necessarily need to have this figured out before you become an Esthetician but it is something important to think about. Being your own boss as an Estheticain, again has been glamorized and it may not be as easy as you think. There are alot of benefits to working for someone so please don’t feel pressured into thinking you need to go out on your own and build your own business right from the start. However, if that is something you’d like to do and don’t know where to start, schedule a 1-1 coaching call or check out our Starting Your Solo Esthetics Journey Guide.
